1. The Exotic DIENG CULTURE FESTIVAL 2018

August 3rd to 5th, 2018

Prepare yourself for a truly exceptional cultural experience in romantic surroundings! The magical beauty of the mist-shrouded highlands of Dieng Plateau in Central Java will be unveiled at the Dieng Culture Festival 2018 scheduled to take place on August 3rd to 5th, 2018, and will be centered in Dieng Kulon, Batur Sub-District, Banjarnegara Regency.

Entering its 9th edition this year, the festival will again present a range of art and cultural performances, an exhibition of Dieng’s finest products, and as a pinnacle of the event: the ritual of shaving off dreadlocks of kids born with this unique hair. The ceremony is known as Ruwatananakgembel/gimbal. Strangely enough, Dieng is a place where many kids are born with dreadlock hair.

No less than 16 exciting sub-events will be featured in the 9th Dieng Cultural Festival (DCF-9). These include Flower and ‘Caping’ Traditional matted headgear festival, a Firework Fiesta, ‘the Tumpeng’’ Festival, a Lantern Festival, a Cultural Parade, Traditional Art Performances, a Culinary Bazaar, and a whole lot more.

Adding sparkle to the festival will be a special Jazz performance aptly entitled Jazz above the Clouds, since Dieng, indeed, stands above the clouds. As in all previous editions, the Jazz above the Clouds will feature some of Indonesia’s top musicians.

Dieng festival will also take the audience to explore the spellbinding beauty of the Dieng panorama. Tourists will witness the spectacular sunrise overlooking the highlands, the morning mist surrounding the ancient temple complex, the breathtaking views of Lake Telaga Warna and the Sikidang Crater, and a whole lot more.

This year, organizers have prepared a camping ground for those who wish to fully immerse themselves in the magical beauty of these highlands under clear starry skies, as they enjoy the festival in alternative accommodation.

Being the main feature of the festival, the ritual of trimming off of dreadlocks of kids is truly exceptional. While globally dreadlock hair is commonly known as Rastafarian style from Jamaica, here in the highlands of Dieng, dreadlock, or matted hair is not a chosen style but rather a mystifying feature that only occurs in children of the Dieng plateau.

2. The Colorful and Aromatic TOMOHON INTERNATIONAL FLOWER FESTIVAL 2018

August 8th to 10th, 2018

This August, the lovely hill town of Tomohon near Manado in North Sulawesi Province, will be covered with an array of flowers in a variety of colors that open into full bloom when the Tomohon International Flower Festival gets underway on August 8th to 10th, 2018.

Together with participants from across Indonesia, floats from 2 European countries and 1 Asian have already confirmed joining this year’s Tomohon International Flower Festival. These are: The Czech Republic, Georgia, and Japan. Moreover, members of the Council of Asian Flower Exhibition (CAFE) will also make their presence felt at this gorgeous flower festival.

As the main highlight of the festival, the Tournament of Flowers (or Flower Parade) and the Flower Fashion Carnival will pass the main streets at the heart of Tomohon on August 8th, 2018. The parade will display resplendent decorated and aromatic floats presented by the districts of North Sulawesi, large corporations and participating provinces from across Indonesia, as well as other participating countries. A Tourism, Trade, Investment, and Floriculture Expo, and The Archipelago Art and Cultural Performances will also be held at the Babe Palar Stadium from August 7th to the 12th, 2018 that is sure to attract thousands.

Tomohon is a picturesque, cool town lying at the foot of two huge mountains, Mt. Lokon and Mt. Mahawe, situated only one hour’s drive from Manado, capital, and gateway to North Sulawesi. Its main products are flowers, from bright yellow and white chrysanthemums to red and purple dahlias, wistful lilies and other bright and colorful flowers that are planted not only in large plots but also in gardens along the main roads. When in full bloom they decorate the entire town.

3. SANUR VILLAGE FESTIVAL 2018 : “Mandala Giri”, the Circle and the Mountain

August 22nd-26th, 2018

This August, the swathe of white sand called Sanur Beach in South Bali will roll out its 13thSanur Village Festival presenting an exciting array of fun fiestas that will take place from August 22nd-26th, 2018 at the Maisonette Area of the Inna Grand Bali Beach.

This year, the festival has selected the theme “Mandala Giri” literally meaning: the Circle and the Mountain. For the Balinese, the Mountain represents the head or the highest point of spiritual and cultural orientation. Therefore, this year the festival directs the focus back to Mount Agung, not only as the center of geographical feature but, moreover, of culture and spirituality.

Its eruption in November 2017 and recent volcanic activities of Mt. Agung indicate the immediate closeness and deep relationship that exist between nature and humankind. Following this belief, a sensitivity to Mount Agung’s existence and conditions are seen as the driving force to maintain the spirit of unity and brotherhood among peoples, to honor and continuously preserve nature, to inspire creativity and innovation, and ultimately to show the world that Bali is a safe place for all to visit.
